NIN Registration hits 47.8 Million, as SIM merger deadline draws near

The National Identity Management Commission has warned that those who fail to link their mobile phone with their National Identification Number so will pay a huge price.

The warning was issued as the deadline for linking of telephone lines with the National Identification Number draws near.

The warning was made in a message on Twitter by the National Identity Management Commission, hours to the government deadline.

The Federal Government had last year declared that all SIM cards that were not linked with valid NIN after December 30, 2020 would be blocked.

The deadline was later extended by three weeks for those who have already obtained their NIN, and six weeks for those who were yet to register with NIMC.

Meanwhile; the number of Nigerians who have obtained their National Identification Numbers has hit forty-seven point eight million.

The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, ISA PANTAMI, said the linking of the NIN with telephone numbers would help to trace people in the country, either for good or bad.

This was made known in a statement issued in Abuja by the Director of Public Affairs of the Nigerian Communications Commission, IKECHUKWU ADINDE.

He confirmed that the Technical Implementation Committee under the Ministerial Task Force is holding a meeting today to report progress.
