North-East Elders back EndSARS protests; Demand sack of Service Chiefs

A group of elders from the North East of Nigeria has called for the removal of the Service Chiefs as a means to strengthen the fight against terrorism and banditry in the region.

The Coalition of North East Elders for Peace and Development also said the continuation of the EndSARS protests is because of frustration over the worsening insecurity in the country.

The group noted that the disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad was not the end to insecurity in the country, adding that what is needed is a total reform of the security system.

The North-East elders also kicked against the move by the Nigerian Army to launch a new operation code-named “Operation Fireball” to tackle insecurity in the North East.

The position of the group was contained in a statement by its National Chairman, ZANA GONI.
