Northcentral Governors agree to jointly tackle insecurity

• Gov MATTAWALE denies sponsoring bandits

State governors from Nigeria’s Northcentral geopolitical zone have held a meeting in Makurdi, Benue State.

The agenda of the meeting is to find a solution to the security challenges in the northern part of country.

These include terrorism in the northeast, banditry in the northwest, and communal killings in the northcentral.

Five of the governors were present at the meeting, while the governor of Nasarawa State was represented by his deputy.

After the meeting, Governor ABUBAKAR BELLO of Niger State told newsmen that they agreed to work together to tackle the problem on insecurity.

Meanwhile; Governor BELLO MATAWALLE of Zamfara State has denied being involved in the sponsorship of bandits.

Governor MATAWALLE also described the allegation against him by the All Progressives Congress as an insult

MATAWALLE, who was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party in 2019, said banditry has been going on in his state since the APC was in charge under former governor, ABDUL’AZIZ YARI.

He said while insecurity remains a major challenge, terror attacks have reduced in Zamfara State since he came into office in less than two years ago.
