NSCDC detains six suspects over Oregun illegal oil storage facility

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has confirmed the arrest of six suspects in connection with a fire outbreak at an illegal oil storage facility around Oregun area of Lagos State.

NSCDC spokesperson, NNAMDI ODINA, told our correspondent NAJITE ATIRENE that the suspects in custody include five men and a woman.

ODINA also said the recovered several containers used for the storage of petroleum product at the illegal facility, including three 10,000-litres of surface tanks.

The NSCDC official said their investigations so far revealed that the operators of the facility were involved in adulteration of petroleum products.

NNAMDI ODINA said before the fire incident, the NSCDC had been investigating the illegal oil storage facility through the help of informants.

Meanwhile; some residents around the Oregun fire scene told our correspondent that the illegal oil storage facility had been in existence for several years.
