Okada Ban: LASG steps up enforcement in 6 LGAs and 9 LCDAs

The Lagos Government has reminded members of the public that the operation of Okada rider remains banned in six local government areas and nine local council development areas.

These include Apapa, Lagos Mainland, Surulere, Ikeja, Eti-Osa, and Lagos Island local government areas.

The affected LCDAs are Onigbongbo, Ojodu, Ikoyi-Obalende; Iru-Victoria Island; Lagos Island East; Apapa-Iganmu; Yaba; Itire-Ikate; and Coker-Aguda.

The state government decided to remind residents of Lagos about the ban on Okada riders due to recent clashes between some operators and law enforcement officers around Amowo-Odofin and Ikeja.

A government statement noted that some officials were wounded in the attack, adding that those responsible for the act would be identified and punished.

Meanwhile; the taskforce operatives have so far impounded one hundred and thirty-one motorcycles and arrested fifteen riders for violation of the Lagos State Traffic Law.

They also seized one hundred and fifty vehicles for violating the traffic law in different parts of Lagos State.

Thirty-five drivers of the seized vehicles have already been charged to court, convicted and had their vehicles forfeited to the state government.

Those whose vehicles were forfeited were found guilty for driving against traffic, while sixty motorists who drove on the BRT lane were fined seventy thousand naira each.
