Plateau LG workers demand payment of N30,000 minimum wage

As work resumed for the New Year in Plateau State, some local government workers resumed their demand for the payment of the new minimum wage of N30,000.

The protesters from seven local government areas gathered at the State Government Secretariat in the capital city, Jos, Monday, January 4, 2021.

The protesters were led by the Vice-Chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees in Bokkos Local Government, BARNABAS PHILLIP.

However; they were confronted by a joint security task force comprising the police and the army, who fired tear gas at them.

The protest leader later confirmed to reporters that thirty-two of their members were arrested by the security operatives.

However; the Plateau State Police Public Relations Officer, UBAH OGABA, said he was not aware of the arrest of anyone who took part in the protest.

The Police spokesman also told Lasgidi FM News Desk on telephone that there has been a standing directive against staging protests in Plateau State.
