Police blame Banks, C-I-T-Y Officials for attacks on Bullion Vans in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has promised tough times for banks and other financial institutions that do not take the issue of security seriously.

The Commissioner of Police, HAKEEM ODUMOSU, gave the warning at a meeting with bank officials, responsible for the handling of cash, which was held at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.

C.P. ODUMOSU observed that conspiracy, security lapses, and unprofessional conduct by banks and cash-in-transit officials are largely responsible for recent attacks on bullion vans in Lagos State.

The Commissioner of Police made specific reference to the deadly bullion van robbery at Langbasa area of Ajah, where he said there was no adequate official deployment for such movement.

He noted that the two policemen who were engaged as escorts for the cash movement were procured illegally and without the knowledge of the State Police Command.

C.P. ODUMOSU said that the Standard Operating Procedure on the movement of valuables requires that there must be at least two operational vehicles with fully armed policemen for one armoured bullion van.
