Police disrupt anti-price hike protest in Lagos

The Police, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, disrupted a protest around Yaba area of Lagos over the hike in the cost of electricity and petrol.

The protesters were mobilised under the banner of the Joint Action Front but some of them were arrested.

Among those who were said to be detained by the police are popular rights activists ACHIKE CHUDE, MALACHI UGWUMADU, and ABIODUN AREMU.

A member of the group, PASCAL CHIMEZIE, told Lasgidi FM News Desk that they were released by the police and that the protest was successful.

PASCAL CHIMEZIE said the civil society group wants the government to return to the old prices, adding that there was no justification that the government was subsidizing petrol.

PASCAL CHIMEZIE also faulted the Federal Government plan to convert petrol engines to be able to use gas.
