President Muhammadu Buhari extends Coronavirus Lockdown by Two Weeks

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has ordered the extension of the Coronavirus lockdown in Lagos and Ogun states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory for another fourteen days, beginning from last night.

In approving the extension of the movement restriction and social distancing measures, President BUHARI said he took into consideration the rising number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in Nigeria.

The President, who made the announcement in a national broadcast, acknowledged that the lockdown was painful, but stressed the need to sustain the gains of the past two weeks since the measure was introduced.

President BUHARI also said government was aware of the burden of the lockdown on daily wage earners and promised to expand the social welfare register to accommodate additional one million households.
