The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, GARBA SHEHU, has been criticized over his claim that terrorists who attacked the Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, in Katsina State, abducted only ten students.

SHEHU had in an interview with the BBC said that some students who escaped from the terrorists had told the military that ten of their colleagues were taken by the bandits.

But in a statement on Twitter clarifying his comment, the Presidential spokesman said his statement to the BBC needed to be verified.

He said his comment is different from saying that all the other missing students had been accounted for, adding that nearby forests and villages are being searched and parents are being contacted for information about their children.

Meanwhile; more details are emerging on the attack and kidnap of students of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara, Katsina State.

An unnamed source close to the village where the incident happened told a news channel that the attack by bandits was in reprisal.

Reports say members of a vigilante group in the area had earlier attacked and burned down the hideout of the bandits.

In the meantime; Jama’atu Nasril Islam group led by the Sultan of Sokoto, MUHAMMAD SA’AD ABUBAKAR, has described the latest attack by bandits in Katsina State as a slap on the face of President MUHAMMADU BUHARI.

The group said the boldness of the bandits in carrying out the attack and the abduction of students of the boys’ schools on the day President BUHARI arrived Katsina State on a private visit is to further test the resolve of his government.

The position of the group was contained in a statement released by its Secretary-General, KHALID ABUBAKAR ALIYU.

The group advised President BUHARI to listen to the calls from Nigerians to address the nation and make adjustments to the security system.

Reports from Katsina State say Governor AMINU BELLO MASARI has visited President BUHARI at his country home to brief him of the abduction in Kankara.

The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, FEMI ADESINA, confirmed the Governor’s visit in a message shared on his Facebook page.

The spokesman of the Nigerian Defence Headquarters, Brigadier General JOHN ENENCHE, has also revealed that the number of students still missing after the Kankara attack is three hundred and thirty-three, as of 7PM, Monday, December 14, 2020.
