Science Scholars worried about misinformation, drop in Covid-19 cases

The sharp drop in the number of new cases of Covid-19 testing due to reduction in testing in Nigeria is causing concerns among Nigerian medical scholars.

Members of the Nigerian science community are also worried about the challenges of reporting the new coronavirus in the country.

These observations were made by participants at a Zoom media conference organized by the Nigerian Academy of Science, which was anchored from Lagos.

President of the Academy, Professor KALU MOSTO ONUOHA, said reporting Covid19 has not been very easy because of new challenges and uncertainties.

On his part; US-based Professor of Medical Sciences, ABAYOMI AKANJI, questioned the cost of reopening of the economy with the new coronavirus still around.

In his presentation; Professor ROTIMI JAIYESIMI, who is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, said tackling Covid-19 with wrong information is like the military going to war without any idea about the enemy position and strategies.

Meanwhile; the United Nations has said that the world can only contain the coronavirus and its impacts if every person has access to accurate and reliable information.

The US has, therefore, launched a new platform called “Verified” to assist everyone with life-saving information, fact-based advice, and stories from the best of humanity.
