Sexual Predators on the loose; as Police record multiple arrests in Lagos

Police in Lagos have arrested 61-year-old Eke Kanu for raping and impregnating his 19-year-old teenage daughter at Ikorodu.

Eke Kanu is also alleged to have taken his daughter to a chemist to abort the pregnancy in order to cover up his crime before she developed complications.

A member of the International Federation of Women Lawyers reported the alleged crime by Eke Kanu at the Ikorodu Police Station on June 12, 2020.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, the unnamed teenager said her father started having sexual intercourse with her when she was small and threatened to deal with her if she told anybody.

Elkana, who is a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the suspect was arrested and taken to State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

In a related development, 33-year-old Chibuike Kalu is being investigated for allegedly sexual abuse of his 15-year-old daughter at their resience on Amodu Street in Bariga, Lagos.

DSP Bala Elkana said the suspect was arrested last Friday, June 26, 2020, adding that he confessed to the crime and would be charged to Court, while the victim was taken to Mirabel Centre Ikeja for medical treatment and forensic examination.

Similarly; another man of 26-years old, identified as Chinedu Obi, is being investigated for allegedly having sexual intercourse with the twin daughters of his employer at their Aguda residence.

The Lagos State Police Command spokesman said the incident was reported at the Aguda Police Station on June 16, 2020 by the mother of the twin girls.

DSP Bala Elkana said the mother of the victims reported that she had left them in the care of Chinedu Obi in her house before the young allegedly took advantage of them.

He said the suspect confessed that he started having sexual intercourse with the girls in 2019.

The command spokesman also said the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the transferred of the case to the Gender Unit at the State Commend Headquarters, Ikeja for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution.

Following the developments, CP Odumosu also advised parents not to trust anyone with their kids, especially female children.

He further reaffirmed the commitment of the Command to continually apprehend sexual offenders, wherever they are in the State and make them face the full weight of the law.
