Southwest leaders oppose social media regulation, demand action on 2014 National Conference Report

Political and traditional rulers in the Southwest geopolitical zone have call on government to take steps to deal with the problem of unemployment among young Nigerians.

The Southwest leaders also want government to speedily conclude the ongoing negotiations with Academic Staff Union of Universities so that students can return to school.

The regional leaders who met in Lagos on Sunday, November 8, 2020, also called for a review and adoption of the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference on restructuring of Nigeria.

They specifically want government to give attention to the recommendations on security, economy and equal treatment for all citizens.

They also observed that the prolonged closure of Nigeria’s land border had caused economic hardship for citizens, as prices of foodstuff had increased.

On the fallout of the hijacking of the EndSARS protests by hoodlums, the Southwest leaders called for the strengthening of security in the geo-political zone and across the country.

Unlike Northern leaders who called for government regulation of social media due to the spread of fake news; the Southwest leaders wants government to use existing laws to check the spread of fake news.
