Troops kill and arrest scores of bandits in Zamfara

Nigerian troops have killed at least two suspected bandits in the sustained operations in the northwestern part of the country.

One of the bandits were gunned down during a raid of an illegal mining site at a location in Bukuyyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The second bandit was killed after he tried to attack inhabitants of Maigalma village in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The Acting Director of Defence Media Operations, Brigadier General BENARD ONYEUKO, said the incidents happened over the weekend.

Brigadier General BENARD ONYEUKO said troops also arrested one hundred and fifty suspects at the illegal mining site in Bukuyyum.

He said the military also recovered twenty Dane Guns, as well as an AK-47 rifle loaded with magazine and five rounds of ammunition at Maigalma village in Anka Local Government Area.

The troops also discovered eleven brand new locally made rifles and one hundred and fifty live cartridges that were hidden inside a vehicle traveling to Kofar Dinya in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State.
