252 inmates escape from Jos Prison

The Nigerian Correctional Service has confirmed that 252 prisoners escaped from the Medium Security Correctional Centre in Jos, Plateau State, after gunmen attacked the facility last Sunday.

The authorities also said that 9 of the prisoners were killed in the attack, while ten of those who escaped have been captured.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Francis Enobore, confirmed in a statement that an Assistant Superintendent also lost his life in the attack.

Enobore also said one of the gunmen who attacked the prison was trapped within and later identified as one of those killed in the gun battle with security operatives.

Meanwhile; the Controller of the Jos Custodial Center, Samuel Aguda, informed newsmen that properties destroyed in the attack include the record office and the ICT office.
