5-Day National Security Summit opens in Abuja
  • Sultan, Ooni call for action to end insecurity

A five-day national security summit organized by the National Assembly has opened at the National Intelligence Agency in Abuja.

The summit, which was meant to have started on Monday, was delayed by two days due to the death of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru.

The Senate President Ahmed Lawan, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, called for a review of the security system in the country.

In a message delivered on his behalf by Secretary-General of the Federation, Boss Mustapha; President Muhammadu Buhari expressed the hope that the current security challenges in the country shall end.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, and the Ooni of If, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi called for action to address the problem of insecurity in the country.

On his part; the Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces would take necessary steps to restore peace in the country.
