60th Anniversary: Buhari challenges Nigerians on Unity

President MUHAMMADU BUHARI has challenged Nigerians to join hands with the government in the search for solutions to problems facing the country.

President BUHARI accepted that Nigerian was facing economic and security challenges, as well as the loss of honesty.

On the other hand; the President said agitations by different sections of the country are based on artificial fault lines.

However; President BUHARI said Nigeria’s sixtieth independence anniversary presents an opportunity to address the divisions within the country.

The President made the observations in his Independence Day broadcast from the State House in Abuja.

The President went back memory lane to trace Nigeria’s journey since independence in 1960, highlighting the visions of the founding fathers.

He said Nigeria’s increasing population with a high level of migration from rural communities to urban centres have added to the challenges of development for the country.

On the part of his government; the President pledged his commitment to strengthening democratic culture, rule of law, accountability, good governance.

On the complaints of hardship by Nigerians as a result of the hardship brought upon them through the increase in the pump price of petrol, President BUHARI insisted that government can no longer pay subsidies.
