Absence of petitioners forces Lagos Judicial panel to adjourn

The Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality and Shooting of EndSARS Protesters in Lekki has adjourned sitting after entertaining one petitioner on its opening session.

The Panel had fixed four petitions for hearing on its maiden sitting at the Lagos Court of Arbitration in Lekki but three of the petitioners were not present to share their testimonies on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Another petition against an officer of the disbanded Federal Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force required that the Commissioner of Police appear before the Panel but he was not present.

The Chairman of the Panel, retired Justice … announced that the panel will reconvene on Friday, October 30, 2020 to consider the petitions.

Meanwhile; the Nigerian Bar Association has again promised to monitor the proceedings of the Judicial Panel on Police Brutality and Shooting of Lekki Protesters.

NBA President, OLUMIDE AKPATA, made the pledge when he appeared before the Panel along with other lawyers.

The Lagos State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, MOYOSORE ONIGBANJO, was also present at the Court of Arbitration in Lekki, along with the Chairman of the Lagos NBA, for the hearing of the Judicial Panel of Inquiry.
