AGF denies memo calling for invocation of martial law

The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has denied advising President Muhammadu Buhari to suspend the 1999 Constitution.

Malami made the denial in reaction to an allegedly leaked memo from his office to the Presidency, calling for the declaration of martial law.

However; his media adviser, Umar Gwandu, explained in a statement that the Justice Minister remains a democrat and believes in the rule of law and the constitution.

Gwandu added that the government does not operate in secrecy, and that Malami has been doing his job as provided in the Constitution.
