Attack on Ortom: IGP confirms arrest of suspects
  • Recruitment bottleneck delays ‘swat’ take-off

Recruitment challenges is delaying the operations of the Special Weapons Tactical Team, SWAT, of the Nigeria Police Force.

This is coming six months after SWAT was created as a replacement for the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, following the EndSARS protest in October last year.

The Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, made this known during the weekly media briefing organized by the Presidency at the State House in Abuja.

IGP Alkali Baba said the disbandment of SARS created room for the current security challenges that are being experienced in different parts of the country.

He said about three thousand, seven hundred police personnel have been sent to the South-East and South-South states to boost security following recent attacks by the so-called Unknown Gunmen.

Meanwhile; IGP Alkali Baba confirmed the arrest of some suspects over the attempted assassination of Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.
