Aviation workers protest planned concessioning of Airports

Workers of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria have staged simultaneous protests in some airports across the country.

Those affected include the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos and the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.

The FAAN workers are opposed to plans by the Federal Government to give out four airports on concession to private operators.

They are also opposed to the government’s plan to include them in the contributory pension scheme, and have threatened to disrupt the resumption of international flight operations on Saturday.

Lasgidi FM’s CHUKWUEMEKA OBIOMA was at the Lagos Airport and spoke with the Secretary-General of Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals, ABDUL-RAZAK SEIDU.

However; the spokesperson for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, HENRIETTA YAKUBU, refused to give details about the cause of the protest.

Members of the National Union of Air Transport Employees and the Air Transport Service Senior Staff Association also joined the protest at the airports.
