CSO kicks, as Rivers State Govt bans ENDSARS protest

Governor NYESOM WIKE of Rivers State, in South-South Nigeria has banned all forms of protests in the state.

The ban on protest was announced in a statement by the Commissioner of Information and Communication, PAULINUS NSIRIM.

The State Government said the Inspector General of Police had already scrapped SARS, adding that there was no need for any form of protest against a police unit that no longer exists.

The ban was announced just as members of the Civil Society Organisations in Rivers State were planning to return to the streets of Port Harcourt to continue the EndSARS protests.

However; the ban on protests in Rivers State has been condemned by CSO stakeholders in the state on grounds that it was a violation of the constitutional rights of the citizens.

COURAGE NSIRIMOVU of the Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law and KEN HENSHAW of a group known as “We The People” are among those who has opposed to the protest ban.
