Delta State lays claim to recovered Ibori loot

The Delta State Government has laid claims to the sum of four point two million pounds recovered by the British authorities from people linked to former governor, JAMES IBORI.

Governor IFEANYI OKOWA confirmed that a formal request has been made to the Federal Government for Delta State to receive the recovered loot, since it was stolen from the state.

Governor OKOWA said during an interview on television that the Delta State Attorney General has met with the Attorney General of the Federation to discuss the matter.

OKOWA also said they have suggested that either the money is returned directly to Delta State, or it should be spent on important projects for people of the state.

Recall that the Federal Government had said the recovered Ibori loot would be used for the completion of three federal projects, including two that have no connection to Delta State.

The government decision is based on a memorandum of understanding that was signed with the UK government on the repatriation of the recovered Ibori loot.
