Ekiti lawyers fault clampdown on Yoruba nation agitators

Reactions continues to trail the demonstration in Lagos State last Saturday by the group calling for a separate Yoruba nation.

Three days after the protest, some lawyers in Ekiti State have condemned the clampdown on the agitators by security operatives.

The Ikere-Ekiti branch of the Nigerian Bar Association said the action by the security agencies is strange to democratic settings across the world.

The NBA Chairperson, Kikelomo Owolabi, who briefed newsmen on this year’s press week, called on the federal government not to turn the country into a lawless nation.

Owolabi said the people should be allowed to enjoy their legitimate rights under the constitution to demonstrate peacefully.
