#ENDSARS: Ekweremadu calls for State Police

Former Deputy Senate President, IKE EKWEREMADU, says what Nigeria needs to deal with the security problems and stop the EndSARS protests is the creation of state police.

Senator EKWEREMADU said he was not surprised about the ongoing street protests, recalling he had in the past warned that a day would come when Nigerians would no longer accept the worsening insecurity in the land.

The PDP Senator from Enugu State said the problem with policing in Nigeria and insecurity in the country is due to Sections 214 and 215 of the 1999 constitution, which provides for a central police force under the Command of the Inspector General of Police.

In a statement, Senator EKWEREMADU noted that Nigeria is the only federal state with unitary police, which he said he never worked anywhere, and is not working in Nigeria, and will never work.

He also said that a major lesson from the EndSARS protests is that Nigerians can always get the changes they desire if they act as one.
