Failure to wear face mask attracts 1year imprisonment in Lagos

People in Lagos who fail to wear face mask in public face the risk of up to one-year imprisonment.

This follows a warning by the Lagos State Government that anyone who fails to obey any of the guidelines for the prevention of Covid-19 will be arrested and prosecuted.

According to a public service announce on the government’s social media handles, those who violate the Covid-19 guidelines would be prosecuted based on the Lagos State Infectious Diseases Prevention Regulations.

It said other violators could also be tried in court based on the provisions of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.

The warning is part of the state government’s response to the second wave of Covid-19, which has led to the reinforcement of restrictions across Nigeria.
