Fmr Liberia’s Defence Minister ordered to refund $1.2m soldiers pension savings

Liberia’s former Defence Minister, Brownie Samukai, has been ordered to refund nearly one point two million US dollars from soldiers’ pension savings.

The Supreme Court made the order after upholding the judgment of a lower court against Samukai and two others who worked under him.

Samukai and the others had argued that they withdrew the money from the soldiers’ pension fund on the orders of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

But the court ruled that the men withdrew the money unlawfully and for reasons that fund was not meant for.
