Groups kick, as FG approves Petrol and Electricity price hike

The Federal Government’s approval of increases in the price of petrol and electricity tariffs is not going down well with a cross-section of Nigerians.

The Petroleum Products Marketing Company yesterday approved a new ex-depot price of one hundred and fifty-one naira.

The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria has said the pump price could come up to one hundred and sixty-two naira.

The main opposition People’s Democratic Party has rejected the increments, which it described as callous and wicked.

PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, KOLA OLOGBODINYAN, said the party demands an immediate reversal of the prices to avoid a national crisis.

…REPS Minority Caucus worried about more hardship

Similarly; the Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has rejected the increase in the pump price of petrol.

The House Minority Leader, NDIDU ELUMELU, said the hike in fuel price was unacceptable, as it would cause the cost of consumer goods and services to rise.

ELUMELU who is of the PDP from Delta Stat said the action of the government was coming at a critical time when majority of Nigerians are struggling to survive.

…NLC warns about threat to industrial harmony

Meanwhile; the Nigeria Labour Congress says it can no longer guarantee industrial harmony following the high cost of electricity and petrol.

NLC President, AYUBA WABBA, said that the Federal Government was taking Nigerians for granted, as the price of petrol has been increased more than three times in three months.

He said to worsen the situation, banks have reduced interest rate on savings, which affects mostly the poor and vulnerable people.
