The House of Representatives passed the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, without the provision for direct primaries.
The lower house of the National Assembly passed the bill after removing Clause Eighty-Four, which provided for compulsory direct primaries by political parties.
The Green Chamber also shunned calls to follow the example of the Senate, which include a provision for consensus candidates.
Instead, the House allowed political parties to adopt either direct or indirect primaries in the selection of candidates for elective positions.
