Katsina and Niger states order closure of cattle markets

The government of Katsina State has ordered the total closure of Jibia-Gurbin Baure road to all motorists until further notice.

Also to be closed is the Kankara-Sheme road, with motorists advised to use the Funtua as alternative.

Governor Aminu Bello Masari made the order as part of efforts to tackle violent attacks by terrorists operating as bandits.

Governor Masari also ordered the suspension of sale of all animals at the markets in fourteen local government areas, including Jibia, Batsari, Safana, Danmusa, and Kankara.

Others are Malumfashi, Charanchi, Mal’adua, Kafur, Faskari, Sabuwa, Baure, Dutsinma and Kaita.

The government ban also covers the transportation of cattle in trucks from Katsina State to any other state in Nigeria.

Also banned is the sales of second-hand motorcycles, while motorcycles are not allowed to carry three persons.

Similarly; the Niger State Government has ordered the suspension of all weekly cattle markets across the state.

This was announced in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, as part of measures to check rising cases of armed banditry and kidnappings.

Matane noted that any vehicle carrying cattle into Niger state must show a waybill and evidence of where cattle were purchased and their destination.
