Lagos Assembly passes VAT, Anti-Open Grazing Bills

Lagos State looks set to become the second state in Nigeria, after Rivers State, in the making of a law for the collection of Value Added Tax.

This is because the Lagos State House of Assembly has just passed the Lagos State VAT Bill, which comes after a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt ruled in favour of Rivers State for the collection of VAT.

The Lagos State House Assembly has also passed a Bill for the Prohibition of Open Grazing of Cattle, just like Benue State and some states in the southern part of the country.

At the end of the session, the Speaker of the House, Mudashiri Obasa, directed the Acting Clerk to send copies of the bills to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for him to sign them into laws.

Meanwhile, some residents of Lagos have called on the government to assist cattle breeders with facilities for ranching of their livestock.

Those who spoke with Lasgidi FM’s Chukwuemeka Obioma said the move will prevent excessive increase in the price of cattle.
