Lagos Judicial Panel hears more petition on 17th Day

The Lagos State Judicial Panel has resumed sitting for the seventeenth day, with seven petitions lined up for consideration today.

Lasgidi FM’s NAJITE ATIRENE reports that the first petition to be considered by the Panel today is that of a couple OKWUCHUKWU and NZUBE OBECHINA.

However; the lawyer to the respondent, NOSA WATSON, asked the panel to throw out the petitioner’s case as it was already before the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal.

Similarly; TOLULOPE AMINAT OPENIYI appeared before the Panel for the second time to continue her case over the alleged police killing of her husband OLUSEGUN OPENIYI in 2007.

However, the police lawyer, EMMANUEL EZE, asked the Panel to stand down the matter as his other colleague was yet to arrive at the tribunal.

The third case featured HANNAH OLUGBODI who testified before the Panel that the she was hit by a stray bullet, which damaged her leg.

The case was also adjourned to Friday, December Eleven, due to the absence of the other police lawyers who were said to be held in traffic.

Also, NDUKWE EKEKWE who claimed that he became paralysed after SARS operatives threw him off a two-storey building, appeared before the panel for the fifth time.

However; the police lawyer, ISRAEL EJIOFOR, asked the panel to adjourn the case, adding that they have video evidence of the petitioner confiding in a medical doctor.

NDUKWE’s Lawyer, OLUKOYA OGUNGBEJE, said that there was no basis for another adjournment, as the police were given enough time to bring forward their evidence and witnesses.

In her ruling, Justice DORIS EKUWOBI adjourned the case to December 15, 2020, for a final hearing.
