37-year-old Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno has been installed as the new Head of State of Chad.
Deby Itno, who is a four-star general, was announced as a replacement for his father, IDRISS DEBY, who died at the age of sixty-eight while visiting Chadian troops in the battlefield against rebels.
The young general is to preside over a ruling military council that will oversee affairs of Chad for eighteen months when elections would be conducted.
His father, late Idriss Deby, was due to be sworn in for a sixth term in office, which would have extended his hold on power beyond thirty years, before his sudden death was announced.
