President Mohammadu Buhari has appointed Major General Farouk Yahaya as the new Chief of Army Staff.
The appointment comes seven days after former Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru died in a plane crash.
Before his latest appointment; Major General Farouk Yahaya was the General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigerian Army.
Major General Yahaya was also the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI in the North-East.
The appointment of the new Chief of Army Staff was confirmed in a statement by the Acting Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu.
Recall that the former COAS and ten other military officers were killed in a plane crash on Friday, May 21, 2021, and buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja a day after.
A three-day national mourning declared by the Federal Government in honour of the departed military officers ended on Wednesday, May 26, 2021.
