The Nigerian Bar Association has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari decision to decline assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2021.
NBA President, Olumide Akpata, in a statement said the association is not convinced that President Buhari demonstrated good faith in the exercise of his veto powers
Akpata said one would have expected the executive to be more directly involved in the legislative process while the Bill passed through the various legislative stages at the National Assembly.
Akpata explained that the president’s action seems to contradict his personal experiences with the inadequacies of the electoral process and having repeatedly pledged to strengthen the electoral process.
