NBC queries Channels TV, invites presenters over Ortom interview
  • DSS denies claims of arrest

The National Broadcasting Commission has queried Channels Television over an interview it granted Governor Samuel Ortom.

Governor Ortom had during the interview on Tuesday this week accused President Muhammadu Buhari of promoting a sectional agenda due to the violent attacks and killings in parts of the country.

The NBC in a letter to the Managing Director to the broadcasting station, which was signed by its Director General, Balarabe Illela, claimed that the interview breached six provisions of the National Broadcasting Code.

It also requested the television station to explain within twenty-four hours why the NBC should not impose sanctions against it.

A source close to the television station also informed Lasgidi FM News Desk that Channels presenters – Chamberlain Usoh and Kayode Okikiolu – were also invited by the NBC over the interview.

However; the Department of State Services has denied reports in a section of the media claiming that it ordered the arrest of Channels TV presenters.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, made the clarification in a statement, just as he warned those behind the spread of fake news to stop.
