The Anambra Police Command has arrested the leader of a child trafficking gang operating from Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area.

Lasgidi FM’s Crime Correspondent, NAJITE ATIRENE, gathered that fifty-five-year-old NKECHI ODINYE was caught after being on the run for three years.

The Police Public Relations Officer, HARUNA MOHAMMED said that sixteen children, including ten boys and six girls, have been rescued from the gang members.

HARUNA MOHAMMED said the suspect and the children were first handed over to the Gombe State Police Command, where four of the children were identified and reunited with their biological parents.

HARUNA MOHAMMED said another of the rescued children was returned to his real parents in Delta State.

Investigation into the case started with the arrest of one HAUWA USMAN in Gombe State in October last year.

HAUWA USMAN was alleged to be involved in the selling of stolen children to NKECHI ODINYE in Anambra State.

Meanwhile; the police are unable to identify the parents or relatives of eighteen of the rescued children after two months.
