President Muhammadu Buhari has kicked against the demand for state police an option to tackle the security challenge in the country.
President Buhari said his position is because of the high risk of state governors abusing their powers if they are allowed direct control of the police.
Instead, President Buhari said he would prefer a situation where traditional rulers would be made to play a huge role in bringing peace to communities.
It is also the view of the President that the problem between farmers and herders, which has caused the loss of lives and destruction across the country, has to be resolved through dialogue.
The President reportedly shared his views in a rare interview with Channels Television.
