Pressure mounts on Kogi State to release activists detained for 50 days

Pressure is being mounted on Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State Government to order the release of two activists – Larry Emmanuel and Victor Anene Udoka.

Twenty-eight-year-old Emmanuel and thirty-two-year-old Udoka have been in detention for forty-nine days, after they were arrested for taking part in a protest on April 5, 2021.

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has threatened to take legal action against Governor Bello and the Kogi State if Emmanuel and Udoka are not released within twenty-four hours.

Amnesty International has also launched an online campaign calling for the release of Larry Emmanuel and Victor Anene Udoka from what it described as unlawful detention.

Amnesty International said the two activists are being detained solely for peacefully exercising their right to protest and expressing their views.
