Senate passes Peace Corps Bill

The Senate has again passed the bill seeking to provide legal backing for the Nigeria Peace Corps.

The bill is sponsored by Senator Ali Ndume of Borno North Senatorial District.

It was passed following the adoption of the report by Chairman of the Senate Committee on Interior, Senator Sadiq Umar.

The Nigeria Peace Corps Bill was first passed by the Eight National Assembly in 2018, but President Muhammadu Buhari refused to sign it due to security concerns.

Back then, the Nigeria Police Force had kicked against the Nigeria Peace Corps, while the Department of State Services arrested the Commandant-General Dickson Akoh.
