Sylvester Oromoni’s Death: 5 students, 5 staff of Dowen College cleared of wrongdoing

Five students and five workers of Dowen College have been cleared over the death of twelve-year-old student, Sylvester Oromoni.

The students are Favour Benjamin, Micheal Kashamu, Edward Begue, Ansel Temile, and Kenneth Inyang, who are between fifteen and sixteen years.

The students were also cleared the allegation of belonging to unlawful society due to insufficient facts to establish the offence.

The workers – Celina Uduak, Valentine Igboekweze, Hammed Ayomo Bariyu, Adesanya Olusesan Olusegun, and one Adeyemi, were cleared of the alleged offence of negligence.

The Lagos State Director of Public Prosecution, Adetutu Oshinusi, said the students and staff, who were earlier arrested by the police, have no case to answer.

Oshinusi’s position was contained in her legal advice to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, and Magistrate Olatunbosun Adeola.

The legal advice is based on the interim and final autopsy reports issued by the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital and the Central Hospital in Warri, Delta State.

The DPP said based on the findings, there was no established case of murder, involuntary manslaughter or malicious administering of poison with intent to harm against the five students.
