Uganda to take in 200 Afghan refugees

Uganda is to take in two thousand refugees from Afghanistan, after the Taliban seized power on Sunday.

Uganda’s Refugee Minister, Esther Anyakun said the deal was agreed following a request from the US government.

Meanwhile; the Vice President of the sacked government in Afghanistan, Amrullah Saleh has vowed to fight the Taliban till the end.

Reports indicate that Saleh has retreated to the Panjshir Valley in the northeast of Kabul, which is yet to be taken by the Taliban.

The new Taliban regime in Afghanistan has addressed its first news conference, during which it promised to respect the rights of citizens, including to allow the education of women up to university level.
