WHO declares Cote’ivoire free of sleeping sickness

The World Health Organisation says Côte d’Ivoire has officially eliminated Sleeping Sickness.

WHO says the last case of Sleeping Sickness in Côte d’Ivoire was reported in 2019, as the country becomes the second African country to eliminate the disease.

In case you do not know, Sleeping Sickness is a deadly disease, and it spread by the bite of an infected tsetse fly.

It is estimate that more than sixty million people in thirty-six countries who live mainly in rural parts of East, Central and West Africa face the risk of contracting Sleeping Sickness.
