On the foreign scene, Zambia’s newly elected President, Hakainde Hichilema has taken his oath of office in front of cheering crowds at Heroes Stadium in the capital, Lusaka.
Hichilema told thousands of jubilant supporters that he will rebuild the economy, restore respect for human rights and alleviate poverty.
He recalled that his victory marked Zambia’s third peaceful transition of leadership since multi-party democracy was adopted in 1990.
