2023: Defection by Governor Dave Umahi rattles PDP

• Ebonyi National Assembly caucus pledges Loyalty
• State working committee dissolved

Ebonyi State Governor, DAVE UMAHI, has refused to say whether he will return to the People’s Democratic Party if the party decides to give its 2023 presidential ticket to the South-East.

Instead, Governor UMAHI said he believes that if the PDP picks a South-East presidential candidate, the APC would be able to do better.

Responding to questions in a television interview; Governor UMAHI repeated his claim that the South-East had been poorly treated by the PDP despite its support over the years.

Governor DAVE UMAHI also cautioned Rivers State Governor, NYESOM WIKE, over the comments he made on his defection, calling him a dictator.

Meanwhile; it appears that Governor DAVE UMAHI did not defect from the PDP with all political office holders elected on the platform of the party in the state.

This is because some PDP lawmakers from Ebonyi State in the National Assembly have come out to pledge their loyalty to the party.

The Ebonyi PDP National Assembly Caucus said no Federal lawmaker from the state is following the governor to the APC.

Senator SAM EGWU, who is a former governor of Ebonyi State, spoke on behalf of the PDP Caucus at a media briefing at the National Assembly.

However; Governor DAVE UMAHI, in his response, said time would tell whether he defected to the APC alone.

Governor UMAHI also said he did not have to consult other governors of the South-East before making his decision.

In the meantime; the National Working Committee of the PDP has dissolved the Ebonyi State Executive Committee of the party and set up a caretaker working committee.

PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, KOLA OLOGBONDIYAN, made the announcement in a statement, a day after Governor DAVE UMAHI defected to the APC.

However; the Chairman of the dissolved State Working Committee, ONYEKACHI NWEBONYI, has said the National Working Committee had no right to take such action.
