Agba Jalingo’s libel trial stalls due to absence of witness

The libel trial of Lagos-based social critic, Agba Jalingo, by a Cross River State High Court in Calabar has failed to make progress.

This is because JALINGO’s accusers; the Cross River Microfinance Bank Limited, failed to produce their witness to testify in court.

Lasgidi FM News Desk gathered that the claimants’ lawyer informed the Court that their witness was very sick.

He said Agba Jalingo’s lawyer, James Ibor, had also been informed, and therefore asked the court for an adjournment.

Following the development; Justice Maurice Eneji adjourned the case to march 21 for hearing.

When Lasgidi FM News Desk contacted the defence lawyer, James Ibor, he confirmed what happened in court.

The libel case against Agba Jalingo is in connection to a publication on his online-based “Cross-River-Watch” in July, 2019.

The report claimed that the microfinance bank was used to divert five hundred million naira belonging to the Cross River State government.

Recall that Jalingo was arrested by the Police in Lagos on August 22, 2019, and moved to Calabar where he spent one hundred and seventy-nine days in detention.
