APC congratulates Gov. Obaseki on Second Term victory

The national leadership of the All Progressives Congress has congratulated Edo State Governor GODWIN OBASEKI on his victory at last Saturday’s governorship election.

APC’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Governor MAI MALA BUNI of Yobe State sent the congratulatory message a day after the Edo State branch of the party rejected the outcome of the election.

Before sending the APC’s congratulatory message, Governor BUNI had held a meeting with President GENERAL MUHAMMADU and the chairman of the party’s Campaign Committee for Edo, Governor ABDULLAHI GANDUJE of Kano State.

According to the statement to the media, the APC’s National Caretaker Committee Chairman described the result of the Edo State governorship election as a victory for democracy.

The statement reads: “As a party, we join our leader, President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, to affirm our ‘commitment to free and fair elections’ in order to strengthen ‘the foundation for our political and moral authority’. We commend INEC, our security agencies and all political parties that contested the election for the successful conduct of the election. As a governing party, we will take every step necessary to support the Federal Government to consolidate all the gains achieved.”

Governor BUNI observed that the election was peaceful, adding that some problems within the APC worked against the party and its candidate.

However; BUNI praised the APC candidate and members in Edo State for their efforts in the election.
“We, in particular want to salute our candidate in the election, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamuh for his tenacity and leadership. We similarly commend our Edo State leaders, especially our immediate past National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and all our members in Edo State for demonstrating unwavering support for our party and our candidate in the election.”
