Chief of Army Staff argues with federal lawmakers over arms purchase funds

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Ibrahim Attahiru has appeared before the House of Representatives’ committee investigating the use of funds meant for the purchase of arms for the military.

Before his appearance yesterday, the House Committee had repeatedly summoned Lieutenant General Attahiru and the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, but they failed.

In his submissions, the Army Chief refused to answer questions related to a documents he submitted to the Committee, saying it was self-explanatory.

However, Lieutenant General Attahiru’s submission did not go down well with the federal lawmakers.

Following the argument between the lawmakers and the Army Chief, journalists were excused from further covering the proceedings, as the meeting entered into a closed-door session.
