CINEWORLD closure threatens 45,000 UK, US jobs

Up to forty-five thousand people are at risk of losing their jobs, following plans by Cineworld to close its cinemas in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Cineworld has six hundred and sixty-three cinemas, and the closure, which begins on Thursday this week.

It would affect five thousand, five hundred jobs in one hundred and twenty-seven cinemas in the UK.

MOOKY GREIDINGER, who is the chief executive of the cinema chain, said it was not a decision that was made lightly.

GREIDINGER said the organization did everything in its power to support safe and sustainable re-openings after the Covid-19 lockdown.

It is not clear when Cineworld would reopen its outlets, while the plan has further delayed the release date for the latest James Bond film.

He said Cineworld would continue to monitor the situation closely and would communicate any future plans to resume operations at the appropriate time.
