Court orders freezing of Kogi State salary account

The Kogi State Government has been barred from its Salary Account due to a controversial loan of twenty million naira from Sterling Bank.

Justice Tijjani Ringim made the order following a request by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

The order by Justice Ringim is to enable the EFCC investigate the twenty-billion-naira loan, which the Kogi State Government allegedly took from the bank as bailout for the payment of salaries.

Counsel to the EFCC, Abass Muhammed, told the court that the loan was not used for the purpose it was taken, but kept in an account with Sterling bank to yield interest.
